| US women supporters asking for equal pay in football |
America's star footballer Megan Rapinoe after winning the women's FIFA World cup urged her federation for equal pay between men and women football team.This created a lot of debate whether her point was valid or not.Cristiano Ronaldo earns 88 million dollars a year as compared to 2.8 million dollars of Alex Morgan,The highest earner in women . Let's take a look at reasons for this huge gap in wages......
➡️ Physicality and Competition - When u are going to watch a cricket match what do you expect ?
Great Fielding, fast bowling, Excellent cricket shots and huge sixes..
Where do you get this more, obviously in men's Cricket .
Altought women have 55- 70 metre boundary in comparison of 68-90 metre boundary for men they don't even hit half number of sixes as men and the bowling speeds between the two is huge too.
Talking about competition American Women's football winning team lost to a local Under/17 boys team 7 - 0 just a month before there world cup campaign. This shows the difference in quality between the two.
Let's have another comparison ..
Usian bolt holds the record for 100 metre race with 9.58 secs while women record by Florence Griffith-Joyner stands at 10.49 secs .10.49 secs timing won't even qualify for men's 100 m final race .
So,this shows that men in sports are superior than women. But is that the only reason why women are paid less??
No.......
We are told female athletes are paid less than men because they generate less money. But that will always be the case if women’s sports aren’t marketed properly.
You have to look at this side as well if sports women are not marketed properly there popularity won't increase which will result in low crowd turnouts which will ultimately Impact on there wages and salaries.
So,My opinion is instead of going for equal pay we should focus on equal marketing and equal screen times on television as there male counterparts.
You see Individual sportswomen such as badminton and Tennis are getting the same recognization and nearly the same wages as men, because these women are marketed in the right way.You see Serena Williams or PV Sindhu do same number of brand endorsements as males. Interestingly in gymnastics there is no bigger name in the game than Simone Biles,she also clearly is the highest paid gymnast in gymnastics.
This shows that marketing and your popularity holds key for your demand and your wages.
